Fedra Voyatzis
Art Coordinator
French Coordinator

My name is Fedra, I teach Art & Design, French and English and I am a Greek Canadian. I really enjoy coming to work because everyday is different. I like to challenge the children to do their best and I like to see their personalities through their art. I believe that education is the key to the nation.

Jean Knight
Design & Textiles Instructor LSA

My name is Jean Knight and I am employed as an art textiles instructor and learning support assistant at Cavendish School. I joined the Cavendish team a year ago having spent 20 years working in mainstream education and Lewisham’s Pupil Referral Unit.

Art textiles is a new subject on the curriculum at Cavendish and the students have all greeted it with enthusiasm. I find it very rewarding to help our students realise that they can all achieve at their own level with a little help. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the beaming smile on the face of a student, who has transformed a design sketch from his drawing book into a 3D object. I am always amazed at the standard of undiscovered talent that our students have.

The students have covered a wide range of topics and skills over the past year from designing and manufacturing P.E Bags with their own personalised logos on them, the logos being based on Chinese symbols. Next they designed and made cushion covers, either for a younger brother or sister or for themselves. The designs for these were all original and very imaginative. Finally the students finished the year by designing and making 3d futuristic insects. The art textiles classroom was transformed into an undiscovered part of the Amazon with strange and amazing creatures crawling up the walls. Huge dragonflies clung to the windows and hung from the ceiling and everyone were amazed at the talent and imagination of the students.

This year has started with the students designing souvenir bags for the 2012 Olympics and again the array of differing designs is amazing.

Our students can be demanding and sometimes challenging, but they are all good company and I feel privileged to be part of the Cavendish team. The demands are great but the rewards are even greater!

Stella Earle
Literacy Coordinator (PT)

I’m Stella Earle and I joined Cavendish school in September 2005. I am the literary coordinator at the school and I teach and support students who experience difficulty with their literacy skills. The students work in a one to one or one to two situation and they enjoy the individual attention which they get and need.

At present we use the Ruth Miskin reading scheme and students who attend the literacy sessions have made and sustained good progress. Which in turn, has led to noticeable growth in their confidence and self esteem.

I greatly enjoy what I do and it is my desire and aim to help students improve their literacy skills, and in doing so to open up new worlds for themselves.

Lizanne Van Dyk
English Teacher, English Coordinator

Hi, I'm Lizanne. I only joined Cavendish School recently, and already I love it here! The boys are so lively and passionate about everything they do (good or not so good), that it's easy to like them.

I'm originally from South Africa, and have experience in South African and British mainstream schools, single-sex schools and Pupil Referral Units.

In English, I want to make sure that every student learns to value the language, feels comfortable using it and realises the immense power of words.

Catherine Pratt
Humanities and Citizenship Teacher, Humanities and Citizenship Coordinator

Hi I’m Catherine and I teach Humanities and Citizenship. I started teaching at Cavendish School in September 2008. My last school was very big compared to Cavendish, so I am enjoying working closely with the students here and getting to know them really well. I like teaching Humanities and Citizenship and I think that they are the most important subjects because they are all about the world that we live in.

Martin McGarrigle
English Teacher

Hi I’m Martin and teach English to all key stages at Cavendish School. I’ve joined very recently and I have been struck by the kindness of many students and staff and also by the support network here. I’m interested in ensuring that all students achieve their potential in English and realise the importance of the subject in their lives not just in school. I’m from Glasgow in Scotland and I support a rubbish football team called Celtic who play in very famous green and white hoops. I really like all types of music and dabble in some myself… drums, guitar and some singing!!! I’m really looking forward to working at Cavendish and treating each day as an opportunity to learn more about everyone here and impart my knowledge and understanding of the English language. I’m passionate about teaching English and want to make everyone enjoy it also.
